MISSION

It is the Mission of the Western New York Environmental Alliance to protect, conserve, manage and restore healthy, resilient, thriving ecosystems and communities in Western New York through collective action, collaboration, and campaigns.

The Western New York Environmental Alliance (WNYEA) is an independent, board-run organization that mobilizes change through collective action and collaboration. With more than 100 member organizations, affiliates and supporters throughout the Western New York region, WNYEA works to ensure that the environment is the key factor in local and regional planning.

OUR VALUES
  • We will be a strong voice of the environment and will always seek to preserve, defend, protect and restore the biodiversity of our region and its human communities.

  • We will uphold the values of equity, justice, transparency and reciprocity in our internal and external interactions and activities.

  • We will actively and collaboratively work with diverse partners in the struggle for climate justice, recognizing that ecological, economic, social, racial and cultural justice are interwoven.

  • We recognize that climate change represents an existential threat to the world and will act to educate and promote actions that will minimize its many and diverse impacts including ways to address the excessive impact it is / will have on vulnerable communities

  • We will champion ecological and community resiliency, building on the relationship and interconnectedness of natural systems and human systems to achieve health and well-being of people and place.

  • We will oppose projects and actions that will harm the region.  We will promote healing and regenerative activities and practices, and shift culture to include the natural world in decisions impacting our region now and for the future.

  • We will demonstrate hope, resilience and determination in our outreach, engagement and advocacy efforts.

OUR GOALS
  • Preserve and restore our [regional environment / bioregion ] through leadership, inclusivity, collaboration, advocacy, and education.

  • Educate and mobilize the public and policymakers to improve the health of the environment and the citizens through campaigns, advocacy, and responses to local and regional matters.

  • Strengthen the Alliance and member organizations and their ongoing environmental work by facilitating conversations, organizing, advocating and acting on behalf of WNY natural processes and diverse human communities.
